A friendly chat, a video call, and suddenly a recording exists that no one was supposed to see. Then the demands: pay, or family, colleagues and Instagram followers see everything. If you are reading this in that situation, one fact should reframe everything: you are not the target of a personal enemy. You are one entry in a call-centre-style operation running the identical script on hundreds of people today. Scripts have counters.
DO these five things now
- Preserve everything — screenshots of chats, profiles, payment demands, numbers. Evidence disappears when they block you; capture it first
- Stop responding — after preserving, go silent. Every reply, plea or negotiation confirms you are engaged and exploitable
- Do not pay — payment never ends it; it promotes you to the 'pays up' list and demands escalate
- Report on cybercrime.gov.in — the portal has confidential handling for these matters, and reporting protects you if content ever surfaces
- Call a lawyer who handles this weekly — the right sequence in the first day shuts most cases down quietly
DON'T do these
- Don't delete the chats in panic — you are destroying your own evidence, not theirs
- Don't confess to family pre-emptively out of terror — in the vast majority of properly handled cases, exposure never happens
- Don't engage 'hackers' who promise to delete the video from the scammer's phone — that is the follow-up scam
- Don't assume a 'police officer' calling about the video is real — fake-cop extortion is part two of the same script
What actually happens when you go legal
In our experience, blackmailers facing silence plus legal escalation move on — their business model needs frightened, isolated targets, not documented cases attached to extortion charges under BNS Section 308 and IT Act Sections 67/67A. Where any content does get posted, expedited takedown channels for intimate-image abuse exist on all major platforms, and they work. Your matter is handled with complete confidentiality — that includes from your own family, if that is what you need.
If you paid already
You are not foolish — you were professionally manipulated. Payments made can often be pursued through the financial fraud channel like any other scam transfer, and they strengthen the extortion case. The only unrecoverable mistake is continuing to pay in silence. Call +91 78629 82475. Confidential, judgement-free, and we have heard it all before.
